Capturing the Feeling of Light, Air & Atmosphere in Your Watercolor Landscapes

June 18  –  June 22, 2018

Hosted by the Hudson Valley Art Workshops
Greenville Arms 1889 Inn
11135 Route 32
Greenville, NY 12083
Phone: (518) 966-5219

Capture the feeling of light, air and atmosphere in your watercolors during this weeklong outdoor workshop for artists of all levels. The scenic grounds of the Greenville Arms 1889 Inn and the surrounding Hudson River Valley will provide the inspiration for our subjects.

In this workshop Joel will demonstrate how to get the elusive feeling of light and air in his painting demonstrations. Topics will vary from painting trees, buildings, cows and other subjects. Following the demonstration, you will have the opportunity to paint and apply the concepts presented. Methods for creating effective clouds and skies will be explored, as well as how to mix a natural looking green. You'll also learn how to achieve spatial depth using a prismatic color approach. Individual instruction will be provided throughout the day.

Participants should plan on making at least two sketches a day and perhaps extra for "do-overs." Make sure you have Cadmium Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Blue, French Ultramarine and Ivory Black plus whatever colors you're comfortable working with. Bring landscape reference pictures with good light and shadows and/or an interesting weather effect for use on a rainy day.
